About

Welcome to my website!

My name is Phoebe Mengxiao Tang, Assistant Teaching Professor in Comparative Politics and Public Health at Drew University since 2019. I received my Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations at the University of Southern California (2018). Prior to Drew, I taught Comparative Politics briefly at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Before coming to the United States, I earned my B.A. and M.Phil. in Beijing and Hong Kong, respectively.

My research interests broadly concern contentious politics, state-society relations, and political participation in authoritarian states. With a regional focus on China and East Asia, I examine the mechanisms of social participation in labor movement, environmental protest, and health politics, with a focus on regime adaptability and/or social resilience.

Currently, I teach courses in comparative politics, authoritarianism, Chinese politics, East and Southeast Asian politics, public health policy, and global health governance.
